Bandpass Interference FiltersEdmund Optics TECHSPEC Hard Coated Bandpass Interference Filters are used extensively in a variety of biotech, biomedical, and quantitative chemical applications to selectively transmit a narrow range of wavelengths while blocking all others.  Interference filters are used to select discrete spectral lines from arc or gas discharge lamps (Hg, Xe, Cd, etc.) and to isolate a particular line from Ar, Kr, Nd:YAG, and other lasers.  Hard Coated filters are fabricated utilizing our state-of-the-art Advanced Plasma Reactive Sputtering coating. This technology allows us to produce single-substrate filters with deeper blocking, higher transmission, and steeper slopes than what are available from soft coated filters.

Edmund Optics TECHSPEC Hard Coated Bandpass Interference Filters are available in a variety of center wavelengths from 405 – 980nm and feature a 10nm bandwidth.

Bandpass Interference Filters are used extensively in a variety of biotech, biomedical and quantitative chemical applications to selectively transmit a narrow range of wavelengths while blocking all other wavelengths. Interference filters are widely used in instrumentation for clinical chemistry, environmental testing, colorimetry, elemental and laser line separation, flame photometry, fluorescence, immunoassays and many other applications.  Interference filters are also used to select discrete spectral lines from arc or from Ar, Kr, Nd: YAG and other lasers, as well as with laser diodes and LEDs.

These robust hard coated filters are fabricated using Edmund Optics’ state-of-the-art Advanced Plasma Reactive Sputtering (APRS) coating technology.  This unique technology allows the company to produce single-substrate filters with deeper blocking, higher transmission and steeper slopes than comparable soft coated filters.  Edmund Optics also offers low-cost “traditional” soft-coated bandpass interference filters. Although these sturdy hard coated filters are somewhat more expensive than the traditional soft-coated filters, this dense coating design prevents filter degradation by serving as a protection from environmental conditions, such as temperature and humidity, which can cause a soft-coated filter to delaminate over time. When the user compares the long-term cost of ownership of the EO Hard Coated Bandpass Interference Filters, the actual cost is significantly reduced because the filters last much longer than traditional soft-coated filters.

Custom hard coated filters, with optical densities greater than 6.0, transmission greater than 90% and edge steepness of less than 0.5% can be rapidly developed for OEM instrumentation.  Standard Hard Coated Bandpass filters are available in 12.5 mm 25 mm, and 50mm diameter sizes with center wavelengths of 405 nm, 532 nm, 632 nm, 650 nm, 656 nm, 671 nm, 940 nm and 980 nm.
