The Pearl Imager (LI-COR Biosciences) features a CCD-based optical system specifically designed for in vivo imaging in the near-infrared (NIR) spectral region where tissue autofluorescence and light scattering are low. Signal detection is optimized for IRDye near-infrared dyes. NIR laser illumination permits deep tissue penetration. Small targets can be visualized at great depths, allowing early tumor detection. White light, 700 nm and 800 nm images are acquired in less than 30 seconds. Dual-channel detection is provides in a single image acquisition. Six logs (22 bits) of dynamic range are available for each image: up to 4 logs of usable dynamic range when imaging mice in the 800 nm channel, or up to 6 logs of dynamic range when imaging excised tumors or organs. The unit has a 16” × 16” × 25” footprint. LI-COR Biosciences, 800-645-4267, www.pearlimager.com.
